Begonia

History: Named for Michel Bégon (1638-1710), Governor of French Canada and patron of botany. He collected begonias from Santo Domingo while stationed there with the French Navy. The Rieger Begonia a hybrid cross between Begonia socotrana and Begonia tuberhybrida was introduced in 1955 by Otto Rieger, of Germany. Begonias originated as rainforest plants in South America where they are now considered endangered in the wild.

Care & Maintenance: INDOORS: Keep in a bright spot away from direct sunlight. Minimum 60°F in winter, avoid temperatures above 75°F. Water freely when plant is in flower, but do not keep constantly soggy. Moist air is helpful, mist air around plant occasionally.
